A New Extended Group Mutual Exclusion Algorithm with Low Message Complexity in Distributed Systems

چکیده
The group mutual exclusion (GME) problem is an interesting generalization of the mutual exclusion problem. In the group mutual exclusion, multiple processes can enter a critical section simultaneously if they belong to the same group. In the extended group mutual exclusion, each process is a member of multiple groups at the same time. As a result, after the process by selecting a group enter critical section, other processes can select the same group with its belonging group and can enter critical section at the moment, so that it avoids their unnecessary blocking. This paper presents a quorum-based distributed algorithm for the extended group mutual exclusion problem. The message complexity of our algorithm is ) 4 ( Q O in the best case and ) 5 ( Q O in the worst case, where Q is a quorum size. Keywords—Group Mutual Exclusion (GME), Extended GME, Distributed systems.

An Improved Token-Based and Starvation Free Distributed Mutual Exclusion Algorithm
Distributed mutual exclusion is a fundamental problem of distributed systems that coordinates the access to critical shared resources. It concerns with how the various distributed processes access to the shared resources in a mutually exclusive manner. This paper presents fully distributed improved token based mutual exclusion algorithm for distributed system. In this algorithm, a process which...

This paper presents a framework for token based mutual exclusion algorithms in distributed systems. Their exists some traditional token based mutual exclusion algorithm. Some new algorithms are proposed in order to increase fault tolerance, minimize message complexity and decrease synchronization delay. In this paper, some new approaches are used, like Token ring algorithm with centralized appr...
متن کاملA Delay-Optimal Quorum-Based Mutual Exclusion Algorithm for Distributed Systems
ÐThe performance of a mutual exclusion algorithm is measured by the number of messages exchanged per critical section execution and the delay between successive executions of the critical section. There is a message complexity and synchronization delay trade-off in mutual exclusion algorithms. The Lamport algorithm and the Ricart-Agrawal algorithm both have a synchronization delay of T (T is th...
متن کاملPrioritized Token-Based Mutual Exclusion for Distributed Systems
A number of solutions have been proposed for the problem of mutual exclusion in distributed systems. Some of these approaches have since been extended to a prioritized environment suitable for real-time applications but impose a higher message passing overhead than our approach. We present a new protocol for prioritized mutual exclusion in a distributed environment. Our approach uses a token-ba...
متن کاملA Fault Tolerant Token-based Algorithm for Group Mutual Exclusion in Distributed Systems
The group mutual exclusion (GME) problem is a variant of the mutual exclusion problem. In the present paper a token-based group mutual exclusion algorithm, capable of handling transient faults, is proposed. The algorithm uses the concept of dynamic request sets. A time out mechanism is used to detect the token loss; also, a distributed scheme is used to regenerate the token. The worst case mess...
